The Mind Your Head Challenge is proud to work with the Dorset Mental Health Forum and is grateful for their support of the Mind Your Head Showcase on August 12th. The Forum was established in 1992 and employs people with lived in experience of mental health problems. It is a local peer led charity (number 1073818), which exists to improve the lives of those affected by mental illness by promoting well-being and recovery. Their Head Office is situated in the centre of Dorchester.
The Forum employs over 60 people and has a support network for 1500 people in the Dorset area.
It believes that people with lived in experience of mental health problems have a wealth of specialist knowledge and expertise, which is why they work in partnership with statutory services to inform the design and provision of local mental health services. The Forum believes that everyone has an equal right to enjoy all of the opportunities that life can provide and promotes the principle that hope, mental health and well-being are essential to all.
The Forum works in partnership with Dorset University Healthcare Foundation Trust as a ‘critical friend’ to help improve services for people with mental health needs. It also offers support to people with a mental health problem in the community and in hospital, to help them begin their own journey towards recovery.
