Many people with memory loss and their families face a challenging future, either facing uncertainty about their condition or having to cope with a diagnosis and its prognosis. Added to these challenges are problems with navigating the maze of services provided by statutory, private and voluntary agencies.
“Many are not aware of the services and support available to them and only seek help once the condition has deteriorated, often months or even years later. By this point, the person with memory loss and the carer are often isolated and cut off from community support previously provided by friends and neighbours and through participation in hobbies and leisure activities.
“The new memory advisory service in Dorset will offer a much improved service by signposting help available and taking advantage of the well-established networks, partnerships, and shared vision between the county council, NHS Dorset, Age UK and other private and voluntary sector providers.” Dorset County Council
