‘In the long letter of life, older age is the final glorious paragraph, not a hasty PS’ said U3A co-founder, Peter Laslett. The University of the Third Age now has over 800 organisations nationally with 40,000 interest groups within them. This can range from history, needlecraft, bridge, or wine appreciation, to computers and travel.
There are several U3A’s across Dorset, so why not discover one near you? I attended the Dorchester one, which has some 400 members and is registered as one of our Brain Cells. I was very impressed with the friendliness, energy and enthusiasm in the meeting. As Eric Midwinter, co-founder, proclaims: ‘I am an older citizen, not a social causality, and, collectively with my friends, I am inventing my own destiny’.
