You are a Distant Leader when you are having to deal with remote teams, home workers and on-line customers. The new challenges you face are virtual fatigue, team disengagement, lack of face-to-face contact and the risk of mental ill-health. There can also be a sense of unfairness between those in the office and those that are based elsewhere. It is critical to find solutions to these and many other issues in this virtual world.

The Distant Leader communicates with dispersed stakeholders, which brings new and exciting changes to the way we work, but greater challenges for effective leadership and teamwork. Your team has to follow you and achieve their best to maintain a competitive edge. What worked in the past may not be as effective now, so your existing skills may require honing for a new way of working.

Leaders of this new norm need to call on innovative, compelling and motivational strategies to keep people engaged and the business goals met.  Team cohesion is harder without those all important human interactions, so empathic strategies are needed.

The Distant Leader is a highly practical and participative 90 minute session, which helps those who need to develop their on-line leadership and manage dispersed teams.

The objectives are that by the end of the workshop you will:

  • Understand the requirements to effectively lead dispersed and cohesive teams.
  • Ensure accountability to the business needs.
  • Define actions to take.

Learning

You will learn the qualities required of a distant leader, how to shape your virtual identity, ideas for team development and obtaining the necessary accountability. Discussion will allow sharing of best practice.
