Effective Decision Making is a FREE Business Bite event which looks at how to make effective decisions and hone your judgement capacity. Some difficult decisions may lie ahead and you will want to make sure you make the right choices. This workshop will focus on:
- What makes an effective decision.
- Techniques to gain consensus.
- Deciding on actions to take.
Effective Decision Making
Consider the number of decisions that you and your team have to make every day and the impact they can have on the success of the business. Bad decisions can cost you dearly. It is not usually difficult deciding between what is right and wrong, but it can be between what is good and best. It can be frustrating trying to get others to buy into the decision you have made and valuable time can be lost. Your competitors may gain advantage while you wait.
Research has shown that decisive CEO’s are twelve times more likely to be high performers. If you think of decisiveness as a muscle, you can get ‘fitter’ by making decisions faster, making fewer decisions and put in place practices to get better at decision making every time. It is important to avoid paralysis by analysis. This requires diversity and robustness of your information in order to reduce bias but being aware of information overload. You need to know when you have enough information and involve others in the process to gain different perspectives.
“In any moment of decision, the best thing you can do is the right thing, the next best thing is the wrong thing, and the worst thing you can do is nothing.”
Theodore Roosevelt
