Accountability Without Blame is a 90 minute virtual workshop focusing on the tricky balancing act of ensuring performance without projecting blame. For many managers, this is a regular dilemma. The aim is to help you:
- Define the importance of accountability and the issues involved.
- Recognise the impact of blame.
- Avoid a blame culture.
- Agree actions for change.
Accountability is a key concept in leadership and the design of organisations. Achieving basic levels of accountability is no longer enough; it needs to be embedded in the culture at all levels. It is a personal choice to rise above one’s circumstances and demonstrate the ownership necessary for achieving desired results. Applying The Oz Principle, you need to see the issue, take ownership of it, find a solution, and then implement it.
Blaming others is a defence mechanism, we can inadvertently slip into. It is an unconscious process that protects the finger-pointer and blame-shifter from experiencing unpleasant feelings like guilt or shame. Unfortunately, when you blame others you betray yourself and become self-deceived. The tendency then is to inflate others’ faults, whilst exaggerating your own virtue. The flames of blame can be very divisive, demotivating and dangerous.
This particular Accountability Without Blame workshop is in-house, but if you would like to run this for your team, please let me know at rosie@training-for-results.co.uk
