Claire Whiles’ views on the Mind Your Head Challenge Conference & Showcase, Dorchester: 12th August.

“I am a great believer in people having the empowerment to take control of things and the Mind Your Head Challenge ticks those boxes.  The speakers coming to the conference are amazing and to be able to listen to the quality of speakers locally in Dorset is an opportunity not to be missed” said Claire Whiles, Owner of the Light and Energy Centre, Weymouth, and newly recruited Brain Cell

Two events are interlinking on the day. People will be able to buy tickets in advance to attend the Conference and listen to four world renowned speakers, including Tony Buzan (Mind Mapping creator). Also taking place is a Showcase of ‘Brain Cells’ from around Dorset. Visitors to the Showcase will be able to explore a wide range of different stands offering a variety of mind stimulating activities. At the Light and Energy stand you will be encouraged to get involved in activities such as making a beaded sun-catcher, testing your nutritional knowledge in a game and receiving nutritional advice.  For those who enjoy making music, there is even an opportunity to take part in a drumming session.  And this is only one of 20 stands at the event!

Brain Cells have been registered all over Dorset.  Each Brain Cell represents an organisation that provides mind stimulating activities for people of any age, although they are encouraged to welcome those who are over 50.  Claire decided that the Light and Energy Centre in Weymouth would be an ideal ‘Brain Cell’.   The Centre provides a range of activities such as classes in Tai Chi and meditation, and a number of different therapies that help people to live healthier lives. As a nutritionist herself, Claire recognises the importance of eating the right foods and nutrients to feed the brain and keep us mentally alert for longer; critical these days as we expect to live longer.

Claire says “I decided to be involved in the Mind Your Head Challenge because I think it is very important for people over 50 to keep their brains active and to have access to the necessary information on how to do that. The Showcase is an exciting opportunity to meet other people with similar views, making connections is really important, you never know where it might lead.  We also have the Olympics in Weymouth in the two weeks leading up to the conference, which is a great opportunity to see a really good link between the physical and mental fitness of the athletes and the mental fitness we will be focusing on.”

Tickets for the Conference are £95.00 each and can be purchased in advance through the website.  To attend the Showcase you can buy tickets on the day at Kingston Maurward for £3.00 a head (this includes entrance to the lovely Kingston Maurward gardens, which is normally £5).
